Residents of the city on the Neva note: from 29 July to 3 September in the Museum of nonconformist art in St.-Petersburg is held the international exhibition “the Figure and the rose / La Figure et la Rose”dedicated to the ladies! the Gothic in contemporary art. For the first time in one space the works of artists of Russia, France, Finland and the Netherlands, working in a modern Gothic style.

Since the mid 90-ies of XX century in contemporary art visible sustainable “Gothic” trend. Its occurrence was associated with deep metacultural process in modern civilization, and local processes – birth at the turn of 80-90s virtual spaces and new forms of communication.
The exhibition at the Museum of nonconformist art presents paintings, drawings, video art, sculpture, animation style quasilattice; many of the works created specifically for this exhibition.
The exhibition title is symbolic and three-dimensional. “Figure” refers to modern technology that has brought qualitative changes in ways of creation and perception of art. “Rose” – a powerful polysemanticism the notion, Central to the Gothic era, which symbolized the gold of the human soul, the “heavenly window”, the mother of God and the beauty of the created world. Thus, the exhibition demonstrates the transformation of “Rose” through “the Figure”.
Gotika – great style, born of ages went beyond the historical framework of his era and was the epitome of mystery and mysticism at all times. We know Victorian Gothic, neo-Gothic and pseudo-Gothic, subculture ready, modern pop Gothic. Gothic remains aesthetically attractive for sensitive connoisseurs, and unsophisticated young rebels. By interpretation of Gothic impressions are the most diverse, and spires of cathedrals with colored stained-glass window of the rose; and selenocysteine Latin letters, the giver of secret knowledge; and neotechnic bending thigh chubby virgin; and macabre dances of skeletons… Appeal to the Gothic style is always a challenge to himself and the study involving secrets and desires.
