On this day in 2001 the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four civilian aircraft.
The first of them crashed into the North tower of the world trade center (WTC) in new York and the other in the South. The third liner rammed the Pentagon, and the fourth, the passengers tried to help the terrorists, the resistance, crashed near Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
As a result of attacks killed 2977 people, most of the victims were civilians.
Al-Qaeda is a terrorist group whose activities are banned in several countries.
