The European court obliged Slovakia and Hungary to accept refugees

The judges rejected an appeal in Slovakia and Hungary.

The European court of justice on Wednesday, September 6, dismissed the appeal filed by the governments of Slovakia and Hungary, who demanded to annul the decision of the European Union on the allocation of quotas for refugees among member countries of the EU.

“The court dismissed the lawsuits filed by Slovakia and Hungary against the provisional mechanism for the mandatory distribution of asylum seekers (among EU member States – ed.)”, – reads the statement of the court following the hearing. So, according to the judges, this mechanism of distribution of refugees “contributes to the fact that Greece and Italy were able to cope with the effects of the migration crisis of 2015”.

As you know, the program of distribution of refugees, adopted in September 2015 by a majority of member States of the EU, provided for the distribution of 160 thousand asylum seekers among EU countries. However, at the moment were allocated only about 25 thousand people.

Noted that the program voted Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic.
