The country should strengthen the fight against corruption.
The European Union calls on Ukraine to immediately intensify the fight against corruption, which is one of the main requirements of the functioning of the visa-free regime.
This is stated in the published today, December 20, annual report of the European Commission on the implementation of criteria for visa-free regime with the countries of the Western Balkans and the Eastern partnership.
“Given recent events, Ukraine also requires the implementation of immediate actions to ensure anti-corruption measures, which were undertaken in previous reforms and make further progress”, – stated in the leading EU institutions.
In its report, the European Commission put forward six requirements:
– to strengthen cooperation with EU institutions to prevent the risks of irregular migration;
– to conduct awareness-raising campaigns on the responsibilities and rights under the visa-free regime;
– to ensure the independence, effectiveness and sustainability of anti-corruption reforms, in particular by establishing an independent and specialized anti-corruption the Supreme court in accordance with the opinion of the Venice Commission and the laws of Ukraine;
– to restore the authority of the NACP and the establishment of an effective verification system of electronic declarations;
– to cancel the amendment of the electronic Declaration of income anti-corruption activists;
– to intensify efforts to combat organized crime, including by allocating adequate resources to the National police.
The European Commission will monitor compliance with these requirements, the countries of the Western Balkans and Eastern partnership member States and will publish the next report in 2018.
