The EU urged the authorities of Venezuela to hold elections

The EU noted that violence and force will not stop the protests.

Today, may 15, the foreign Ministers of the European Union in a statement urged the Venezuelan authorities to hold elections and to release political prisoners, to resolve the conflict between the government and the opposition, which killed dozens of people.

In a statement, the Ministers called 10 months of the government’s efforts to resolve the crisis, “stagnation,” and noted that the elections would be a way out.

“Violence and use of force will not resolve the crisis,” – said in a statement.

The European Union urged “to set the election calendar so that the people could Express their will democratically.”

Venezuela has not yet responded to this statement.

With April during the riots killed at least 39 people, including protestors, government supporters, witnesses and members of the security forces. Hundreds of people were injured and arrested.

It is also reported that Venezuela is home to approximately 600 000 European citizens.
