The EU extended sanctions against the DPRK

The EU extended sanctions against the DPRK, adding nine people and four companies, including the state foreign trade Bank of North Korea in the sanctions list.

“The EU added 9 persons and 4 legal entities, including the state foreign trade Bank (FTB), in the list of persons and companies subject to such actions as the freezing of assets and travel restriction,” reads the EU statement with reference to the recent resolution No. 2371 of the UN Security Council toughen sanctions against the DPRK.

New sanctions against North Korea imposed in connection with the testing of Intercontinental ballistic missiles, which Pyongyang has held in July.

We will remind, on 5 August the UN security Council unanimously adopted a resolution that strengthens sanctions against North Korea. The new sanctions effectively deprive Pyongyang of one third of their annual income from exports of $3 billion a year.

North Korea has condemned the latest UN sanctions, saying they violate its sovereignty. Pyongyang has promised a “fair response” to the sanctions, without specifying, however, what it will be.
