The EU commented on the blocking of websites in Ukraine

Public arguments of Kyiv to block sites are inadequate, and believe in Europe.

The European Union considers that the protection of national security is the prerogative of the Ukrainian authorities, however, the arguments for blocking Russian sites in the country is not enough.

This was stated by head of press and information Department of the EU delegation Jurgis, Vilcinskas in comments to the European truth.

According to him, the EU has heard the public statements of Kiev that the decision is in the interests of national information security, and that in recent months Ukraine has become the object of numerous attacks.

“We recognize that protecting national security is the prerogative of the Ukrainian government”, – said Vilcinskas.

However, the EU representative noted that these arguments are not enough.

“However, we expect that the government should ensure that restrictive measures taken for reasons of national security, have no negative impact on the fundamental right to freedom of expression,” stressed the diplomat.

He added that in the European Union are waiting for detailed explanations from the Ukrainian authorities, “including on the temporary nature of sanctions” (the EU has asked the Ukrainian authorities to provide additional information about the lock two days ago – ed.).
