Researchers analyzed diet and cognitive tests results 960 people. The average age of participants was 81 years, and the observation period was ten years. For the study, they were divided into five equal groups based on frequency of use of greens, namely spinach, cabbage, lettuce.
In General, the evaluation of tests by all participants at a speed of 0.08 standard units per year. At the same time, the brain of those who regularly ate salad (about 1.3 servings per day), aged at 0.05% slower than those who almost never used (0.1 dose).
As pointed out by the study’s author Martha Clare Morris, the difference in annual terms amounted to 11 years.
Scientists note that the results of the study indicate a relationship between the consumption of greens and a decline in the rate of brain aging, but does not exclude that the effect can be achieved under the influence of other factors, such as from smoke or not, how often drank alcohol and played sports.
