The tragedy in the village Strizhevka in the Zhytomyr region, which killed two children, occurred in a large family. Four children together with their parents with relatives, and the home at the time the fire broke out, which burned a 13 year old girl and 1-year-old boy of her older sister.
People noticed the fire too late, when already the house was the roof. “Fear and terror was. Frightened, screaming children! The door does not open, I can hear the glass flying,” recalls neighbor Helen Danko. Go inside the villagers failed because there was too much smoke. Kids in bed, found the fire that hit the building in gas masks and overalls. The “pre – when the decay of wooden structures, they suffocated in the smoke and in the dream, poisoned with carbon monoxide. The children fell asleep and never woke up,” – said the representative of the SSES Tatiana Tkachenko.
Regarding the causes of the fire rescuers say that there was violation of the stove heating device – a wooden structure was located too close to the chimney, so overheating last began to smolder. Neighbors say five years ago, this hut was on fire, but then it was adults, so all children had to be rescued.
“Why they left home – it is impossible to understand. Leaving two small kids with natoplennoy oven to such a state that it is already on fire,” says the village head Vladimir Bicyc. Social services explained that the family is poor, but on the account as unsuccessful, was not. “The children were clean, neat, not to say that mom did not care. Just so in a family tradition that everyone looked after each other”, – eyewitnesses speak.
Now in the burnt house can not live, so the two preschoolers and two teenagers were sheltered by relatives. The village Council is expected to provide the fire victims two rooms in the hostel. Meanwhile, the police find out the degree of responsibility of adults for the tragedy.
“The boy’s mother was at work in Zhytomyr, and his grandmother and the girl’s mother left for personal reasons at the village,” – told the official version of the investigation, the Deputy chief Korostyshevsky police Department Vitaly Polishchuk.
