We also know this cartoon interesting because it is at its core a rare example of a full-fledged horror film, which in the movies and cartoons of the socialist camp was an extremely rare visitor.
Honestly, in my childhood I have not watched anything more terrible. Later adaptation is no comparison nor is this action that causes the heart, especially for children, to beat faster, although I would not recommend children watching this cartoon. Surprisingly, Karel Zeman, whose early films were still bright, ironic and easy to understand for a child, here, in this work, turned in a net, the darkest of horror. The demonic sorcerer repeatedly testing his students for strength, referring to various nightmarish creatures, the death scene of students filmed accurately, and cruelly, the authors of the cartoon for the first time in socialist cinema is not a hidden theme of death in allegories and parables.
The original novel of Otfried of Preussler “Krabat or the legend of the old mill” I didn’t read and compare with the original can not, although the reviews read darkness out there enough.
