Kyivsky district court of Poltava closed the case against the mayor of Kharkiv Gennady Kernes and his guards, who were suspected of kidnapping and death threats to supporters of the Maidan in winter 2014. The decision was read by the judge Andrey Antonov on Friday, August 10, the press service of the Kharkiv mayor in Facebook.
In particular, in announcing the decision, Antonov said that the prosecution in fact was eliminated from evidence of guilt of the Kernes, which the case was heard over four consecutive years.
In addition, the last seven meetings, during which had to go through the debate, prosecutors conceded. Thus, the court regarded the position of the prosecution as a waiver of indictment and made the decision to close the case.
Recall that the case against Kernes and his guards, who were suspected of illegal deprivation of liberty and threats of killing supporters of independence, were investigated from February 2014. In March 2015, the Prosecutor General’s office announced the completion of a preliminary investigation.
