Former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton said that President Vladimir Putin will not back down in its aggression, and the Russian-Belarusian exercises are only a test of the reaction of the West. He said this during the 14th annual meeting of the Yalta European strategy in Kiev Friday.
“Putin in his address to the Parliament clearly said that the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century was the collapse of the Soviet Union, it means that he wants to restore Russia’s hegemony on the same territories that were in the Union. … Putin will not back down,” said the diplomat.
He also expressed the opinion that the holding of Belarusian-Russian joint strategic exercises “West – 2017” in the vicinity of borders of the countries-members of NATO only “test” from the Russian side reaction of the West.
Earlier John Bolton expressed the view that the introduction of the occupied Donbass UN peacekeeping mission is a flawed initiative from the Ukrainian side.
