In Kiev died Ukrainian sculptor, the author of the coat of arms of the Ukrainian capital Boris Dovgan, he was 91.
This was stated by the writer Tatiana Stus on the page in Facebook.
Dovhan was born in Kiev, studied at the school of applied arts, and then graduated from the Kiev art Institute. After his graduation he taught at the art school im.T.Shevchenko.
In 2009 he became an honorary academician of the National Academy of arts of Ukraine.
Coat of arms of Kiev – “the Golden bough chestnut” our brand has created in collaboration with architect Florian Yuriev as one of the works in the contest in 1965. At that time, the project contained mandatory at that time the Communist attributes – red background, the hammer and sickle. As a direct symbol of the coat of arms was approved 4 years later. The key element is the branch of the chestnut as a symbol of the revival of Kiev, used on city symbols so far.
Also of the last known works Dovgan can remember the following: the monument to Painters-to the victims of repression (1996), the monument to Pope John Paul II in the Vatican Embassy in Kiev, (2002), sculpture composition of the fountain Land and water in Nova Kakhovka, mercury in Bila Tserkva (2000-2008).
