The AMC undertook the verification of the mobile phone market

Inspectors looking for signs of price collusion

Otechestvennye retailers came under the cover of anti-monopoly. AMCU conducts a comprehensive study on the impact of the customs registry of intellectual property rights on the markets of wholesale and retail trade in consumer goods, including via the Internet.

At the same time the Committee on the appeal of public organization “Center for consumer control” conduct market research retail and wholesale trade mobile phones via the Internet.

“In particular, the study has not established whether the traders the same prices for the same product in the absence of economically sound reasons,” — said the Deputy Director of Department – head of the Department of consumer markets of the AMC Eugene Melnichenko. Simply put, supervisors are looking for in the market the signs of price collusion.

According to Melnichenko, reason to suspect traders conspired there. For example, the iPhone5S at the time of receipt of treatment in the ACU, cost the same — 9999 UAH. in online stores, Allo, Citrus and Foxtrot.

“Such data we received many, not only for iPhone but for other brands, so started to study” — said Melnichenko.

According to preliminary data of the AMC, the retail market of mobile phones is competitive, however, the market for the wholesale supply mainly characterized by an oligopoly structure (limited number of mainstream players).

In particular, the official import of phone to Ukraine is engaged in only a few companies, most frequently representatives of the manufacturer.

“In our opinion, competition in the market for the wholesale supply of mobile phones of the most famous brands limited and under certain circumstances can lead to violation of the legislation on protection of economic competition,” the AMCU.
