South America has experienced two flood in 20 million years.
An international group of scientists, which includes experts from the USA, Belgium, Canada, Panama, Colombia and the Netherlands, made an amazing discovery in the field of geography.
As it turned out, for the period of its existence, the basin of the Amazon river twice been flooded by the sea.
Currently, in the scientific sphere has been an ongoing discussion on one question that looked like plains of Western Amazon for Miocene, which falls on the period of time from 23 to 5 million years.
At the moment 80% of its landscape covered by forests, which are rarely faced with the problem of floods, while 20% have it in the wetland area, often flooded river floodplains and lakes. However, in the Miocene period, the Western Amazon was a completely different landscape, which clearly show special dense precipitation.
The researchers found an explanation of the data of sedimentary deposits, which could occur due to the presence around the perimeter of the Amazon sea or large lake. In the new scientific works of the specialists referred to evidence the foregoing assumptions. The latter lie in the detailed analysis of the lifetime of Geochemistry-Armeneasca and sedimentation conditions in the territories of the Llanos (Colombia) and Amazonas (Brazil).
According to scientists, the importance of the conducted research consists in the necessity to understand the changes that have occurred in the Amazon basin. Because they are inextricably linked with the evolution and biogeographic distribution of legacy and modern biota. In addition, all this has shaped the climate of the continent.
