The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina won the first match at a major grass tournament in Birmingham WTA Premier with a prize pool of $846,000.
First opponent Svitolina after the insulting defeat in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros was 126-I racket of the world of Britain’s Heather Watson. Tennis players spent a third-person game in 2015, on the grass tournament in Eastbourne defeated Watson and Svitolina was stronger at the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
The first set, despite the big score, was challenging for Svitolina. Watson struggled in each game, forcing the favourite of the match to make one break point after another. Svitolina with the score 4:2 with great challenges defended their supply, and then the reception was closed starting party.
In the second set Svitolina failed to step forward – Ukrainian missed three break points, but secure the game on his serve allowed Elina to maintain a comfortable position. In the second round of the grass tournament in Birmingham, Elina Svitolina will play against the winner of the match between Kamila Georgie (Italy) and Natalia Vikhlyantseva (Russia).
