The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina by a large margin won the voting on the official website of the Women’s tennis Association.
In addition to Svitolina for the title of best tennis player Feb claimed champion “St.Petersburg Ladies Trophy” Kristina Mladenovic and the winner of a major tournament in Doha Karolina Pliskova.
Visitors of the official WTA website gave Svitolina 63% of the vote, the second was Mladenovic (27%), while Pliskova was satisfied with the third position (10%).
Svitolina during Feb issued a record breaking unbeaten run that allowed the 22-year-old tennis player to win two tournaments. For a start, Roger Federer won in the competition category WTA International in Taipei, and then became the champion of a major tournament in Dubai, and on the way to the title Elina defeated two former first rackets of the world (Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki).
These successes allowed Svitolina to become the first player in the history of Ukraine, ranked in the top 10 of the WTA rankings. In the title race a native of Odessa in the current season is second only to the legendary Serena Williams.
Elina Svitolina also claimed the award in the nomination “Breakthrough of the month”, but here the Ukrainian bypassed Kristina Mladenovic, who due to the success in St. Petersburg updated personal record in the WTA rankings.
