For acquiring full membership of Ukraine in NATO requires the consensus of all allies and the desire of the state.
This was stated by the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“If we talk about membership, the important message is that all 29 allies should come to a consensus on this issue. And, of course, Ukraine itself should decide to become a member of NATO or not,” – said Stoltenberg.
He stressed that no other country has the right to intervene and influence the process of making this decision.
“Every nation has the right to choose your own path and to decide whether to accept or not participation in organizations like NATO,” – said the Secretary General.
According to him, currently the main efforts of Ukraine should focus on reforms, and NATO will assist in this, including the modernization of the Armed forces and the fight against corruption.
“Ukraine is step by step becoming more and more capable of achieving NATO standards in different areas,” – says Stoltenberg.
