Dull, cardboard secondary to pain and based on the novel “Shooter” (it was a first novel, not all of the epic “the Dark tower”, as they like to write in the network) is undoubtedly one of the biggest failures of the year. Not in financial terms, there the movie is doing relatively good, but in terms of destroyed and desecrated the expectations of millions of fans of the original book. Who not only blamed the failure of the starring Idris Elba, which is as far from Canon Roland, to the bosses of Sony, which did not dare to carry all the gloomy grandeur of the plot on the screen and left only the pathos of the teenage narrative. I personally rather subscribe to the second option. And what this says about the author of the series, writer Stephen king?
Yes, the first King of horror praised the film in his Twitter and asked fans of the Saga not to act rashly. But then came to his senses and acknowledged the obvious failure – may be compared the unfortunate “Tower” with a much more interesting “It” and “Gerald’s Game”, which appeared later in the year and also taking for the basis of his history? Anyway, here’s what king has to say about the film now:
As I understand it, the main issue was the intention of the Studio to make the film rated PG-13. It was supposed to be rating the movie, and we wanted to make sure that it will be to watch the audience, say, from 12 to 35 years. And when they began to develop such a film, they lost a large part of what made the original so cool. So people watched it and said, “Yeah, there was nothing that we hadn’t seen before.”
King this time is really hard to argue. To make a film about the long and brutal path of the last arrow for an audience of middle school age – it’s like putting on “Macbeth” at the matinee in kindergarten. One hope to develop the series, which, according to the writer, go in quite another direction.
