South Korea could become the first country in the world, which will introduce a so-called tax on robots.
One of the reasons for this initiative may be increasing unemployment in the country — in 2017 the number of people without jobs totaled 1.17 million people.
At the same time, South Korea is the most robotized country in the world — 10 thousand employees, production accounts for 531 “smart” machines.
The government of South Korea plans to cancel the tax incentives introduced by the previous government for the enterprises introducing automation. Previously, it was economic stimulus for the development industry. Now excessive mechanization leading to significant job losses and, consequently, to reduction of budget revenues, and rising unemployment, explains The Telegraph.
“Tax the robots” is intended to demotivate companies to invest in automated production, thus freeing up jobs for South Koreans.
