Sony sold almost a million PlayStation VR helmets

Sony expected to sell a million devices in six months, to mid-April 2017.

Modern virtual reality continues to remain a dark horse. Although the Corporation’s chucking a lot of money in the development of helmets, the more developers and buyers are still quite cautious to test the waters — do a major success in this industry was not. But, it seems that PlayStation VR it is all about to change.

The New York Times spoke with Andrew House (Andrew House), the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment. He admitted that he had a reserved attitude towards the predictions of the success of virtual reality, however, the result exceeded expectations: by 19 February (i.e. after about four months after release) PlayStation VR helmet bought about 915 000 people.

Sony expected to sell a million devices in six months, to mid-April 2017. Apparently, the plan will be fulfilled and even overfulfilled.

It is unknown how things are at other high-tech helmets, but The New York Times cites data from research firm Superdata: by the end of 2016 edition of the HTC Vive reached 420 000 copies, and Oculus Rift — 243 000.

For contrast, The New York Times recalls the very first iPhone. Bought 1 400 000 times in the first three months after release. This is one of the most successful in the history of consumer technology.
