Smartphones in Russia will be monitored by IMEI

In our country, according to the newspaper “Kommersant”, a new system of total surveillance, this time by IMEI mobile devices. The development is positioned as a means to control the movement of smartphones and handsets, as reported by the representative of the Senator Lyudmila Bokova.

The issue of control of the turnover of mobile devices in Russia has been brought up for discussion by the Commission under the Federation Council, and even made some suggestions. In particular, the idea of a ban (Yes, another one) of sales in our country of smart phones without IMEI. Then the fun – officials offered to resolve the issue of responsibility for flashing smartphones, but still did not explain what this could mean. Alternatively, you go to jail if you roll forward to your honestly bought Android gadget a fresh custom firmware from 4PDA. On the other hand, the officials probably had in mind the responsibility to change the IMEI, so it’s easy to do without flashing.

Further, the planned creation of a single register IMEI and interaction with operators. Nobody calls the timing of the operation of the new system, but there is one caveat: your IMEI number tend to repeat on different devices, albeit with extremely low probability. How the authorities intend to resolve such technical difficulties, the authors of the idea to explain not in a hurry.
