Discussing a painting by Italian abstract artist Umberto Romano, 1937, “Mr. Pynchon and the settlement of Springfield”, in which Indian in traditional dress and with feathers in her hair looks at an object, reminiscent of the iPhone.
The first picture drew the attention of the Motherboard editor Brian Anderson. The journalist learned about it from an article by historian Daniel Crown on William Pynchon, the main hero of the canvas.
As described later, the crown on the picture is, of course, a smartphone and, most likely, a mirror that could symbolize status among the indigenous population of North America.
Among the options also have a pocket-sized collection of Psalms or the blade of a knife or any other metal object, suitable for the manufacture of weapons.
