The Singapore government intends by 2022 to run unmanned buses in three districts of the state – Punggol, Teng and Wrong.
The Minister of transport of Singapore Ho boon WAN explained that the first bus-the drones will go on a flight on a lightly loaded roads.
This statement Ho boon WAN made at the opening of the first test centre for the study of Autonomous driving. Singapore is trying to attract new manufacturers of Autonomous cars. The first six companies ready to test their equipment on the territory of the center.
“We expect unmanned buses will significantly improve the accessibility and usability of our public transport system, particularly for the elderly, families with children and those citizens, whose mobility is limited. More importantly, we will be able to get a better idea about how we can develop a new city, or upgrade existing ones,” said Ho boon WAN.
Drones will not replace conventional drivers, but will help to complement and improve the existing transport infrastructure. Also in the plans of Singaporeans launch of the system interactions that will allow anyone to call an unmanned bus with your smartphone.
Note that each bus can accommodate 36 seated and 33 standing places. Its maximum speed is 60 km/h UAV is equipped with GPS, cameras and lidars that track pedestrians in a radius of 200 meters.
