Village with special architecture.
You’ll be Shirakawa-go from other Japanese villages with their houses. A feature of the local architecture are sloping thatched roofs of houses.
They symbolize hands in prayer. This is not a whim of builders. These roofs due to weather conditions. There are often hurricanes, heavy rains, and in winter there is an incredible amount of snow. And these houses can withstand all. And when you consider that some are 400 years old and built without a single nail – it’s just kind of fantastic.
Local people previously engaged in silkworm cultivation. They live very amicably, do everything together. If someone needs to fix the house or the roof repair involved the whole village.
