For this purpose they created a computer model, through which it was possible to trace the behavior of molecules in whiskey. It was necessary to understand how the system (count the Cup) interact with alcohol, water and guaiacol. The last substance is the same aromatic hydrocarbon, which gives many varieties of whiskey smoked smell. This is usually derived from the fact that the malt prior to fermentation and fry in peat, plus some of guaiacol gives a barrel.
The model answered the question about the dilution. It turned out that 40-degree tape guaiacol is distributed evenly throughout the volume of whiskey. That is, on the surface is not too much of this substance. The smell is, but it is not too intense. However, if you add to the solution a little more water, the picture changes: guaiacol floats to the surface and, accordingly, the tape gives his lover more of the smell.
Interesting point: the effect is manifested when the content of ethanol in whisky falls from 40 percent to 25 percent. In other words, to dilute you will not weak.
But what to do in any case is not worth it to dilute your Scotch with Cola or ice. Doing so only troglodytes. We passed two million years of evolution, to drink such drinks with Cola. However, if initially lousy whiskey, coke with ice is the only thing that will save him.
