The scientific staff of the Chinese state Observatory via the Earth’s largest spectroscope LAMOST found that the boundaries of the milky Way galaxy is much wider than previously established.
A study by Chinese scientists demonstrated that the size of the milky Way galaxy is 26% more than previously thought. So, the radius of this star system is 19 kiloparsec diameter 38 kiloparsec or 1.1-1.2 thousand trillion kilometers. Astronomers also noted that the size of the milky Way galaxy can not be considered absolute, since its boundaries are not fixed because of the stellar halo, which constantly eludes observation.
Halo of the galaxy is its invisible component, the main part of its spherical subsystem. Halo has a spherical shape and extends beyond visible part of galaxy. This component of the galaxy consists mostly of rarefied hot gas, stars and dark matter, which makes up the bulk.
Scientists call their discovery, one that is of great importance to analyze the process of expansion of the Universe, formation of galaxies and the emergence of new stars, and to complement and Refine the existing theoretical hypotheses that are not confirmed until recently by the facts.
