DNA analysis of the remains of a previously living on the planet of cats identified their common ancestor.
Scientists from the Royal Institute for natural Sciences of Belgium, together with colleagues from Institut Jacques Mono in Paris found that cats were domesticated nearly ten thousand years in the middle East.
The study of ancient archaeological objects were found numerous remains of the cats that lived earlier in Eurasia and Africa.
After analyzing DNA samples of the remains found on the site of ancient human settlements, the scientists came to the conclusion that feral cats began to sneak into agricultural settlements of ancient farmers, the harvest fields which are bred in much larger numbers of rodents than in the wild.
According to scientists, the farmers do not interfere with the cats destroy rodents who became defenders of their warehouses with the harvest.
It is noted that the middle East was the beginning of the convergence of humans and cats, which led to the domestication of the animal. Soon the cat had spread through Europe and, presumably, Ancient Egypt. However, despite the theory, scientists are still no clear opinion about the origin of the Egyptian domestic cat.
It is not excluded that the Egyptian domestic cat descended from those that were brought through the trade routes from the Middle East, or its domestication occurred in Egypt. According to the scientists who conducted the DNA of cats, all domestic cats are descended from African wild cats, and the most common color of the animal was striped. This is why on numerous Egyptian frescoes depicts mostly tabby cat.
