The ratio of zinc content to the sulfur in the Earth’s core is much higher than previously thought.
French scientists admitted that the modern model of the Earth formation need to be revised. The specialists said at a conference Goldschmidt2017 organized by the European Association of Geochemistry and Geochemical society.
Experiments conducted by scientists showed that the ratio of zinc content to the sulfur in the Earth’s core is much higher than previously thought. These results do not find an explanation in popular modern models of the formation of the core and mantle of the planet.
To such conclusions the authors came, conducted in laboratory conditions (at a pressure of 80 GPA and a temperature of 4.1 thousand Kelvin) experiment, which reproduces the formation of over four billion years ago, mantle, and core within the Earth.
Most theories of the formation of the Earth suggest that the core and mantle formed from CI-chondrites or enstatite chondrites. According to a recent study the planet’s interior could include the CH-chondrites, which are low in sulphur.
