Scientists discovered the “brain” of the plants.
Scientists from the University of Birmingham have proven that plants have a group of cells that functions as the “brain” for embryos of plants.
As explained in a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, this group of cells is able to assess the state of the environment to dictate when the seeds germinate.
“The solution to plants to grow is a key process, which it carries out in the course of his life. If it’s too early, the plant may be damaged by severe winter conditions; if too late, it might “defeat” the other, more precocious plants”, — says the publication.
Scientists have shown that “the center of decision-making” in plants Arabidopsis contains two types of cells: one promoting peace seeds, and the other promotes germination. These two groups of cells interact with each other by moving the hormones that, as stated in the study, similar to the mechanism that governs the human brain when making decisions to move on or not.
The study used mathematical modeling to show that communication between the separated groups of cells controls the sensitivity of plants to the environment. The researchers used mutant plants in which cells chemically linked to show that the germination time depends on the internal signals.
“The model also stipulated that the seeds germinate better with fluctuating temperatures than at constant temperatures,” the study says.
