Island of New Zealand will be regarded as a separate continent.
Australian and new Zealand geologists have published the results of a research, which stated that New Zealand and New Caledonia is not an isolated island chain and a surface part of the continent.
Scientists claim that this is part of the seventh continent, which they are conventionally called Zealandia, according to the website of the Geological society of America.
It is noted that scientists were able to determine in the earth’s crust fragment with an area of about 4.9 million kilometers. Geologists, on the basis of size and distance, we decided to consider this part of the earth’s crust under the Islands as a continent.
“It is not a sudden discovery, but a gradual realization. For example, 10 years ago we wouldn’t have the accumulated data or the confidence to interpret, to write this article,” the scientists say.
