American archaeologists have discovered in China a unique skulls of people who lived about 120 thousand years ago.
A group of archaeologists, consisting of specialists from China and the United States, found in the course of its archaeological excavations, a human skull, which, in their opinion, belongs to the species previously unknown to science.
About it reported by the journal Science.
Excavations of ancient people, which is located near the Chinese city of Xuchang, began in 2007. But since then to the present time, the archaeologists were able to find only the remains of the 45 fossils.
Now, scientists have been able to put them together, and got two almost complete human skull. Archaeologists have analysed them and found they are quite similar to those that were previously known.
According to them, collected from fragments of the skull may belong to a previously unknown human species that represent a “hybrid” of neaderthals and modern humans. They think skulls are aged at 105 – 125 thousand years.
In any case, scientists believe they found may prove that in the modern territory of southern China lived neaderthals that previously was not obvious.
