Early Earth was covered with ocean and there were mountains
The earth is 4.4 billion years ago was flat and almost completely covered with water with only a few small Islands. This is evidenced by new research.
Scientists came to this conclusion after analyzing tiny grains of zirconium minerals from the region of Western Australia contains the oldest ever found stone.
“The history of the Earth similar to a book with the first Chapter ripped out of Naivasha rocks from an early period, but we used these trace elements of zircon, to build a profile of the world at the time. Our study shows that during the first 700 million years of the Earth had mountains and collisions with continents, it was much more calm and boring place,” says lead researcher Anthony Burnham from the Australian national University.
Grains of zircon preserved in the rocks of Sandstone in the Jack hills belong to the time when Earth was only 160 million years. The new study is consistent with the theory of “Cool early Earth”, which assumes a cool, calm period followed the extreme conditions of the early Earth’s history.
