The new system is twice older than the Sun.
NASA scientists reported that the star, which was opened this year and named TRAPPIST-1 two times older than our Solar system and orbited by seven planets.
“Three planets TRAPPIST-1 are in the “life zone” of a star, the orbital distance where a rocky planet with an atmosphere can have liquid water on its surface. All seven planets is probably tightly locked behind his star, each of which has eternal day and night,” noted scientists at a press conference by NASA in Chile.
“In theory, the star may be almost as old as the universe itself. In the study it was found that TRAPPIST-1 exists from 5.4 to 9.8 billion years,” said NASA.
On the question of whether there can exist on those planets, the life, the researchers cite the example of Mars, which is an example of a planet that once had liquid water on its surface, but over billions of years has lost most of its water and atmosphere through high-energy radiation of the Sun.
