Canadian scientists have discovered a new species of arthropod predators of amphibians that lived in the country more than 500 million years ago.
A sea creature got the name optata Habelia.
A group of biologists from the University of Toronto conducted a study of a large burial of animals of the Cambridge period, which is located in the Burgess shales of British Columbia. Canadian experts have discovered a new species of marine arthropods Habelia optat, which were the predators. The age of the remains of a sea creature is around 508 million years. Scientists have found out that these predators amphibian reached two centimeters in length and had a solid skin covered with spikes. This cover protected arthropod from the pressure at great depths. Also the creature had three rows of sharp teeth, to capture prey used spikes.
Scientists suggest that most of the life marine predator spent in the deep, hiding between the stones.
