An international team of scientists found that at the same time canakinumab reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and the probability of occurrence of cancer. A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
The risk of developing cardiovascular disease, including cases with a fatal outcome after injection canakinumab decreased by 15 percent, and the need for bypass grafting of blood vessels by 30 percent. The incidence of cancer (particularly, lung tumor) decreased by 75 percent. The reasons of this are not yet clear.
The study was conducted in the period from 2011 to 2014, and was attended by about 17.5 thousand people. The average age of participants was 61 years, they all suffered a myocardial infarction.

Secondly, we saw the great value of drugs that reduce the level of fats such as statins. Now we open the door to the third age. It’s very interesting.”
Canakinumab was being developed by the company Novartis. The study was also funded by this firm.
