Scientists project Breakthrough Listen dedicated to the search for intelligent extraterrestrial life, found 15 new fast radio pulses. It is reported by the University of California at Berkeley (USA).
Outbreaks originating from a source FRB 121102 was observed with a radio telescope “green Bank” in West Virginia on 26 August 2017. Each of the 15 pulses lasted 300 milliseconds.
The first outbreak of FRB 121102 was in 2012, the first repeat in 2015. In 2016, managed to localize the signal source — a dwarf galaxy that is removed from the Earth at a distance of about three billion light years, mass of the Sun 40-70 million times, but 10 times smaller and a thousand times lighter than the milky Way. The diameter of the galaxy is 13 thousand light-years.
Fast pulse is accompanied by the emission into space of enormous energy (equivalent emitted by the Sun within a few tens of thousands of years). Currently, there are about 150 registered such outbursts, the signals RB 121102 is the only duplicate from them.
Today, the nature of fast radio pulses is unknown. Scientists admit that their sources include active galactic nuclei or neutron stars. It is possible that the signals are the result of activities of extraterrestrial civilizations.
