Recent studies have shown that scratching, cats can infect humans with bacteria of the Bartonella, a disease, also known as feline fever. The risk of such a development is very large in recent years. But even given the fact that the number of cases is decreasing, complications are very severe, including brain tumor or heart problems, which will promptly lead to death. Typical symptoms are fever, sore lymph nodes, fatigue – it turned out to be much more serious than expected by the researchers. “The spread of the disease much stronger than we thought,” said Christine Nelson, a physician and leading researcher.
Bacteria Bartonella carry fleas, after which they develop into the cat’s fur and can easily fall on his face if to hug the cat. The cause of the infection can also be a bite or scratch. The main carriers are small kittens, whose bodies have not yet developed immunity to various diseases.
Cats are less at risk of becoming carriers of the bacteria than the street, therefore you shouldn’t touch stray animals.
