The discovery contradicts the generally accepted theory of the origin of the Universe.
Astronomers collaborating with scientists from English University of Warwick, found the planet, whose existence previously had a lot of doubts.
In addition, this discovery contradicts the generally accepted theory of the origin of the Universe.
So, the new giant gas planet was named NGTS-1b. It is located in the constellation of the Dove and was at a distance of 600 light years from Earth. The mass of the planet is 20% smaller than the mass of Jupiter, but in size they are comparable. The surface temperature of the planet is 800 K or 530°C.
Interestingly, compared with its star, a red dwarf NGTS-1, the planet is huge: NGTS-1b less than its stars only 785 times. For example, Jupiter is smaller than the Sun 1200 times.
Thus from its star a planet separated by a distance which is only 3%, which is between the earth and the Sun. It makes a full rotation around the star only 2.6 earth days.
Its existence celestial body refutes the theory, according to which planet such a mass cannot rotate around such small stars.
“The opening of the NGTS-1b was a complete surprise — we had not thought to find such a large planet from a small star. This casts doubt on what we know about planet formation,” commented the finding of Dr. Daniel Bayliss.
