Scientists: Cinnamon protects the body from diabetes

The positive effect possess polyphenol antioxidants found in cinnamon.

Scientists from the U.S. and Turkey stated that the use of cinnamon can protect the body from obesity, diabetes and insulin deficiency.

This was announced at a meeting of the American heart Association in Minneapolis.

According to who, about one-third of the world’s population is suffering from obesity. In some countries, the extra weight recorded in more than half of the population, for example, in the UK or the middle East.

Scientists project that by 2025 the number of people with obesity will reach 2.7 billion, and the number of those who suffer from extreme forms of obesity, will increase to 17%. For this reason, experts are trying to find ways of getting rid of excess weight by diet or medication.

The researcher Kazim Sahin from the University of Firat in Elazig (Turkey) and his colleagues found that polyphenolic antioxidants contained in cinnamon can help fight obesity.

Specialists conducted an experiment in which watched dozens of rats. One group for three months were fed a high-calorie food with high fat content and the other conventional feed. In each group half of the rats received an extract of cinnamon.

Scientists have found that cinnamon had a beneficial impact on rats fed on fatty foods. Their average weight was 10% lower and body fat is 30% thinner than that of the rats receiving the same feed. Moreover, in their blood had less cholesterol and enzymes that stimulate fat accumulation in the liver and other vital organs, as well as more antioxidants.

According to Zahina and his colleagues, the cinnamon can be used not only in cooking and for therapeutic purposes to combat the global epidemic of obesity.
