Recent studies have shown that New Zealand is only a small part of a rather large continent, once gone under the waters of the Pacific.
Researchers announced the discovery of a new continent. In fact, they confirmed long ago suggested the existence Zealand.
The continent sizes with two-thirds of Australia securely hidden in the Pacific ocean.
New Zealand turned out to be just the tip of the territory. Researchers have long suspected that once it was an entire continent, but did not have enough evidence for approval of this fact. Obvious tips for scientists were the shape and height of areas.
Also, studies of the ocean bottom showed that the crust is much thicker, and Geology are significantly different from neighboring areas. The main criterion for the recognition of the continent is the location above sea level. Zealand in this plan cannot be a full continent. It is known that it’s approximately 80 million years ago broke away from Australia as a result of the breakup of the supercontinent of Gondwanaland.
Further, it is just hidden under its waters of the Pacific ocean.
