On the eve of the premiere online IMDb published an interview with Rutger Hauer, the famous Dutch actor, star of the original “blade Runner” by Ridley Scott. And of course, the first question was…
What do you think, was it worth it to continue the story of “blade Runner”?
First I have to see what happened. Have you seen the new movie “blade Runner 2049”?

I also do not. Don’t know anything about this project. I think “blade Runner” — he is the only one of its kind. Of course, then you can continue to shoot the second, third, fourth movies, but it will not be the one “Running”, but something quite different. Look what they invented there.
Why, you think, “blade Runner” became a real cult phenomenon?

It is difficult to Express how wonderful it is when the movie lives such a long life. Interestingly, the digital revolution was coming, and in the end it helped the film. First videotapes, then DVDs. So much about “blade Runner” is simply inexplicable. After all, the film was shot with lots of obstacles, problems, difficulties. At the very beginning of filming we didn’t even have a finished script — just broke a strike of the writers… But it usually all happens. Not always, but to create something really lovely, needs someone like Ridley. And still need a lot of money, a lot of luck and a lot of other components. This is often overlooked. Yes, you could say that. And you can say that people were idiots.
Do you write poetry? Does the poetic Outlook on acting? Many of your roles can be called poetic. The most striking example, of course, “blade Runner”.
Yes, write a little. Poetry is always in my heart and sometimes leaks out. I write, but never improvise. Wish I had this confidence. After all I am a actor and on the scene feel extremely uncomfortable. In “Running” poetry was already inside of the character. Ridley said, “Put everything you consider interesting.” Usually you start to think, who were the parents of your character, what happened in his life. And in this case it looks more like some kind of salad: I could spice it up with anything. When I first read the script, the scene of the death of my hero consisted of more than 300 words of technocrati. I thought the final is not the time to hit in the sermon. And then the other sits down. He did not have time and energy to a whole page of chatter. I thought it would be great if Roy would say just one sentence. The result has left the two proposals that were already in the script, and added another: “All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain… Time to die.” Now I realize that created in the final something important — the silence and speed. I am very glad that many are still unable this phrase to quote by heart.
It’s your favorite role?
Yes, of course. It was only his third film in English, and I was so lucky as if to return home with this story and Ridley, who even liked what I was doing and that allowed me to go where I want. No other film can not compare with this.

I was amazed by the scale of the film, all of this motley company. Besides I love Russia. Actually, therefore, agreed to participate in the film. I have been here many times and try to go back for any reason. Very happy to participate in an international project. I think we have more to work with people of different nationalities, it is strongly cohesive.
You often compare your movies, work on them with the dance. “Blade runner”, “the hitcher”…
So. For me, everything in the film dance: editing, camera movement, the relationship between scene partners and so on. This applies to each frame. Each frame tells a story. And all we are doing is an illusion. Character — he really is not a character as such. This is a sketch of the character. What is this character? An hour and a half on the screen is not so much to tell about him. So how can we believe that someone we know in the film? For example, “the hitcher” is a very dark tale, you might say, a nightmare. My job was to make the viewer believe that my hero can do God knows what, even if it’s not shown on the screen. He’s like a Ghost. Each film has its own truth. And most of all a movie like a dream. All fiction and dreams. Pretending. Fantasy. But it’s great. Cinema is inherently artificial. And at the same time terribly real.
