Well-known Russian writer and journalist explained why the Kremlin decided to portray the occupied Crimea Russian rubles.
12 October, Russia has presented a new bill denomination of 200 rubles, which portrayed characters of the annexed Crimea and Sevastopol.
Russian writer and journalist Viktor Shenderovich believes that the emergence of symbols occupied Ukrainian Peninsula in the Russian bills is a reminder about a payment for the crime.
He said this on air of radio “Echo of Moscow”.
The fact that the new banknote depicts the Crimea – I just gasped when you found out about it – to me this feels kind of sinister smile just someone who invented it. Though it may be and conscientious stupidity, but I see the same smug smile, said Shenderovich.
The writer believes that it is no coincidence that occupied Crimea is depicted on the new bill, because now for the money, he said, it is possible to buy what used to cost half as much. However, Shenderovich, most likely misspoke, because the symbols of the Crimea portrayed on the banknote 200 rubles, and in 2000 shows the Vladivostok.
“Crimea on the bill in 2000, for which you can buy that can be used to purchase over one thousand is the evidence of devaluation, the depreciation of the national currency. It depicts Crimea. This “shawl Frida”, is a reminder of your crime for which you’d pay. Before there were a thousand, and now two,” said Shenderovich.
The issue price of the Crimea, according to him, literally drawn on the ruble.
