Russian oligarch buys German supermarkets

34 000 employees fear for jobs, and clients – for their branches, some of them must be sold to competitors, and only about 50 of more than 200 stores will continue to operate for at least 24 months. The man behind this deal – Vladimir Yevtushenkov (71 years old), nickname: “Quiet oligarch”.

When the Soviet Empire collapsed, Yevtushenkov was the Chairman of the Moscow city Committee on science, and then was responsible for the privatization of state companies in the capital. In 1993 he founded his trading company AFK “System”.

His corporate Empire includes: banks, hospitals, media houses, hotels, real estate, technology companies and agricultural holding, which makes it one of the largest landowners in Russia. Evtushenkov has a controlling stake in the largest telecommunications groups in Russia MTS.

Information about the family

His wife Natalia Yevtushenkov – sister-in-law of former Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

Since the early 1980’s father Yevtushenkov worked as an informant for the Soviet secret service KGB and then its successor, the FSB – the pseudonym “Enakiev”.

Son Felix (born in 1978) and daughter Tatiana (born in 1976) are currently managed by subsidiaries of the conglomerate AFK Sistema.
