The Russian followers of Islam on Tuesday began celebrating Eid al-Adha — feast day. This day completes the post after the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan.
In Moscow Cathedral mosque gathered thousands of believers in St. Petersburg on the Petrograd side, Muslims also gather for morning prayer at the Cathedral mosque.
With the Muslim feast congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. In the congratulation Putin posted on the Kremlin website, it is noted that the Eid al-Fitr encourages goodness and mercy. Putin stressed that Muslim organizations are making a significant contribution to the development of interethnic and inter-religious dialogue. In addition, they strongly oppose acts of religious intolerance and extremism.
Medvedev says that the Russian Umma conducts a lot of creative work, paying serious attention to education and charity, many makes to counter religious extremism.
The head of the Council of Muftis of Russia Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin noted that Eid al-Fitr believers pray for their homeland and the termination of conflicts in the middle East, that blood be not shed and do not have the attacks.
Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important holidays in Islam. The celebration starts from the evening of 4 June and continues until the evening of the next day.
