Russian horror “Envelope” miserably failed at the box office

Final figures at the box office over the past weekend at the Russian box office will come later, but already now it is possible to regret to say severe failure of a new domestic horror film “Envelope”.

The premiere took place on Thursday, 30 November 2017, and the film was shown in cinemas 633 – painting is not phenomenal, but not small. The project budget, as reported, amounted to more than 80 million rubles, but the box office at the start of the rental did not allow “Envelope” to even get into the top ten. Less than 5 million rubles, but at such a budget – it’s not even failure, it is provide. We are receiving information that at the session of the “Envelope” is present at the 5-6 viewers – this is in the days of the premiere!

For comparison, for example, a new film by Xavier Jansen “Atlantida”, released in parallel with the “Envelope”, but in a smaller number of cinemas (488), was able to collect nearly 13 million.

And don’t think of us badly, we are not gloating. We’re, you know, cheering for Russian horror and hope that sooner or later domestic filmmakers will be able to master this genre and to see it succeed. And such releases as “the Queen of spades: Black rite” or “Bride”, even not too successful “Black water” by Roman Karimov was allowed to hope that the Russian cinema in this sense is still slowly but surely moving in the right direction. And such a high-profile failures, as in the case of “Envelope” is perhaps a blow around the delicate yet building domestic horror films.

It might be related to the failure of this picture? Obviously, to release chosen was not the best date – the same day as the “Envelope” in rolling out not just “Atlantis”, but national epic blockbuster “the Legend of Kolowrat”, that drew off that part of the audience that is interested in Russian cinema. In addition, the film was not the most attractive trailer. No added advantages and information that the Director Svyatoslav Podgaevsky left the project and was asked to remove his name from the credits (eventually as a Director was specified editor – Vladimir Markov).

Insiders told us in confidence that “Envelope” was not very. Our sources noticed that the movie is a good script, but the movie itself – not so hot.

I haven’t looked in the Envelope. And you? What do you say, is there really all that bad?..
