According to the former President, Russia wants to freeze the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
In fact, Russia wants to create on the line of contact in Donbas new frontier. This was stated by the representative of Ukraine in the tripartite contact group on settlement of the situation in the Donbas Leonid Kuchma.
“What Russia is on the frontline, is to make a new border with Ukraine, and to do something like Transnistria, a frozen conflict again. But it will be something much worse in Transnistria, because Transnistria has no border with Russia. And here is 420 kilometers of border which we have no control over at all – what would it be?”, – said Kuchma.
The former President also commented on the meeting of Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov with the special representative of the United States Ukraine with Kurt Volker, which raised the question of the UN peacekeeping mission.
“29 points, the United States proposed three Russia is ready to take – and then, you see, says: three is not zero. Yes, it’s zero, because the main problem – and the main position of the Ukrainian should be the same: peacekeeping troops must be present on the entire territory of Ukraine, including the Russian-Ukrainian border,” – said Kuchma.
