Russian military intelligence has carried out a cyber attack on at least one vendor of the software (SOFTWARE) used for voting in the United States, according to the portal, The Intercept, citing a secret report of the national security Agency (NSA).
In addition, according to the portal with a link to the report, the Russian military intelligence sent fraudulent emails of more than 100 local staff of the election Commission a few days before the U.S. presidential election of 2016.
Dated 5th may 2017 top-secret NSA document was anonymously turned over to the portal and independently audited, according to The Intercept.
“Structure of the Russian Main intelligence Directorate has carried out operations in cyber espionage against an American company in August 2016, apparently to obtain information about the software and hardware associated with the elections (the Russian – Ed.) the structure most likely used the data obtained in the course of this operation, to start sending fraudulent emails disguised as registration form of the voters, local government organizations”, – stated in the text of the report.
As reported by The Intercept, the NSA does not lead to the conclusions in the report about what did the alleged intervention of the Russian military intelligence on the election results. “NSA acknowledges that much of the scale of the success of the hackers remains unknown”, – stated in the message portal.
