Supposedly Russia was afraid of possible conflict with the Americans.

Russia has threatened to shoot down American “Tomahawk”, so as not to get involved with the Americans in a serious confrontation. This opinion was expressed on air of “Radio Liberty”, ex-Deputy of the state Duma Dmitry Gudkov.

The Americans, most likely, has warned Russia that will attack the air base of al-Assad, said Gudkov.

According to him, the Russian military and political leadership were afraid of the consequences for the downed us missiles.

“It is a strange story, why did our air defense system did not react in any way. I do not exclude also such version that got scared at the last moment to take such a political decision. It is not excluded that refused to knock down. Because these are all now ridicule in social networks, “do not tell our “Tomahawks” and stuff that didn’t work our defense that they are rubber, and not real, I don’t really honestly believe in it. Most likely, first, warned a few hours in the war that will be such an attack. Still some window for Putin, not to exhaust it completely in the corner, was created,” – said Gudkov.

He also noted that the inaction of the Russian air defense shows that Russia clearly does not want to fight against a serious opponent.

“Secondly, despite the tough rhetoric of the Russian authorities, representatives of the Ministry of defence, I think, by and large, the Russian generals, Putin and the representatives of our elites are at war with anyone seriously want. Scare, knowing that no one will answer, Yes. And then they got serious backlash, and then it became, apparently, scary. Because to bring down the “Tomahawk” is to get involved in a serious confrontation with the United States of America, it already absolutely other level of intensity and confrontation.
