Russia may withdraw from the European Convention on human rights

Russia does not rule out the possibility of withdrawing from the European Convention on human rights (ECHR) and the Council of Europe (COE), if we fail to find a compromise. This was announced by Russia’s permanent representative to the Council of Europe Ivan Satanovsky.

“We are considering all scenarios, including with regard to their foreign policy consequences for Russia and for international relations on the European continent”, — he said in an interview with RIA “Novosti”.

According to Soltanovski, Moscow does not regret that at the time he entered COE as “autoalloplasty experience” helped “modernize Russian legal system, to humanize the judiciary and the penitentiary system”, integrating Russian education into the European system.
